Celebrating Youth Creativity, Community History & the Power of Expression
Fayetteville, NC - The 5th Annual “Through My Eyes” Youth Art Exhibit 2025 was a joyous celebration of creativity, community, and youth voices. Presented by Greater Life of Fayetteville, the exhibit showcased more than 20 original works of art created by youth ages 6–14 participating in the I AM YOU-nique Summer Academy.
Through their artwork, young artists explored and expressed their perspectives on the historical sites, places, and cultural significance of the Cumberland County community, encouraging them to look more closely at the history and heritage of the places where they live, learn, and play.
Hosted at Taste of West Africa in downtown Fayetteville, NC, the free public exhibit gave our youth artists an opportunity to see their creativity celebrated by family, friends, community members, and visitors. More importantly, the experience provided valuable real-world exposure, public recognition, confidence-building, and an opportunity to share their unique perspectives with a broader audience.
“We are grateful to host this art exhibit for another year”, says Georgeanna Pinckney, Executive Director of Greater Life of Fayetteville. “Our youth artists are excited to have their artwork displayed and shared on social platforms for the community to enjoy. It also helps build exposure for our amazing summer academy program.”
“Through My Eyes” demonstrates what can happen when young people are given the space, resources, encouragement, and platform to express themselves.
“Help me congratulate my daughter for winning 2nd place for her artwork. Seeing my child’s creativity and talents recognized is a beautiful moment... I could not be more proud of her! Thank you, Georgeanna, for your hard work, dedication, and the genuine love you pour into our children. Forever grateful for you and all that you do!" McKoy Bell, Proud Mother
We are grateful to the Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc., Culture and Heritage Alliance, Fayetteville-Cumberland Youth Council, United Way of Cumberland County, Covenant Life Church, Taste of West Africa, Member of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber, and our supporting partners for helping make this experience possible.
Together, we are creating opportunities for young people to discover their voices, appreciate their community, celebrate its history, and see themselves as contributors to its future.
